Free App: Rope ‘N’ Fly

The folks at are the same folks behind, where they gave away a free app through the month of December to count down days until the big mans arrival. With the success of that advent calendar, they have decided to extend this idea to everyday of the year. They gave away several quality apps during December that I gladly would have paid for, such as Cabby, Santa Trapper (which is now free) and Mini Squadron. Its a great way to discover new apps, which is exactly the idea. Beginning with January 18th, Rope’N’Fly kicks off the campaign. (more…)

Storm 8 is stealing from you (maybe)

Do you have a Storm 8 game? or 12? I just saw over at Macworld blog that they have been accused of stealing phone numbers.  This had come up before and they claimed it was a bug.  Kind of an odd and potentially lucrative bug.  For me it boils down to did they use the information for profit after they discovered the “bug” or did they destroy it?  An “oversight” allowed the bug to get back in to a release.

I wrote a review of Wild West Pinball a while back the same company has released their second Pinball game, The Deep Pinball.  The game has a lot more to offer than WWP and is in many ways the same game.  Game Prom has been good about communicating on their blog and even gave a few copies of the game away.    (more…)

App Review: Alien Splat

I recieved a pre-release version from the developer of Alien Splat and was asked to write a review. Currently, Alien Splat is still being reviewed by Apple and should be released into the wild shortly. The premise of the game is simple, splat all the aliens you can within a specified amount of time and you advance to the next level, the person with the most points tops the leaderboard. Simple enough, right? Well, yes and no. (more…)

If Wolfenstein Beats Madden, It’s Free

Every year around August EA releases its latest and greatest version of the Madden franchise, and every year it seems to outsell everything else ($133.5 million for the month of August 2008).

On Aug. 11th, Raven Software’s Manveer Heir has posted the following message on Twitter trying to take down the champion:

“Here’s the deal folks: if Wolfenstein outsells Madden 10 in August I will personally pay for your copy (keep your receipt) – SPREAD THE WORD”

Can a revised classic from my childhood really overthrow Madden?  If you think it can and have an extra $60 to risk,  the rules are as follows:

“Any platform, using NPD numbers, need a copy of your receipt, you must follow (Manveer Heir) on Twitter”
