In the interest of full disclosure, I received a promo code for the iPhone App, A Surfers Paradise, with the expectation that I comment on it.
A Surfers Paradise ($1.99) is the brain child of Matt Gye and Simon ‘Shagga’ Saffigna. Together, they have won several International Surf film awards. Their vision is to produce a groundbreaking international surfing documentary, delivered in 13, 30 minute installments. The hope is, to excite the imagination of 20 million regular participants through a solid media convergence framework that will ultimately find a home in prime time television world wide. The iPhone app is all part of the media convergence, though honestly, its nothing more than a 2 dollar promotional tool.
Today’s freebee over at freeappaday.com is Reign of Swords ($2.99). In 2008 it won many big name awards from many sites. IGN clearly drank the Kool-Aid on this game in looking at the testimonials. In fact sifting through all the testimonials trying to identify why I want to go get it, I discovered it’s basically a war strategy game. The success of the first game spawned a sequel, it has been aptly named Episode II. (more…)
The folks at freeappaday.com are the same folks behind appventcalendar.com, where they gave away a free app through the month of December to count down days until the big mans arrival. With the success of that advent calendar, they have decided to extend this idea to everyday of the year. They gave away several quality apps during December that I gladly would have paid for, such as Cabby, Santa Trapper (which is now free) and Mini Squadron. Its a great way to discover new apps, which is exactly the idea. Beginning with January 18th, Rope’N’Fly kicks off the campaign. (more…)

MultiPlayer requires WiFi and due to the game using the camera, iPod Touch users are out of luck. If you get hit by an oppnent your phone will vibrate, reload your ‘gun’ just shake and you are ready to take them out. (more…)

Since I got my Google Voice (GV) number I have been trying to figure out a way to utilize one of the best features of it with my iPhone, free text messages. Though as my mama always said, life is like a box of…wait wrong mama…there is no free lunch. Every SMS message that I forward from GV, either sent or received, I get charged by those rat bastards AT&T . I know there are applications such as TextPlus, Jelly SMS or AIM, but with those applications the other person must have the same app in order for the text to be sent and/or received, plus I have to recondition people to send me a text via whatever app that I am using or some other hokey method that most people wont care to use. Lest we forget, I am cool because Google Voice is by invite only, and I got one! I mean really who wants to download an app right away in an app store when I can get put on a waiting list for week. Also, how is Google to rule the world, if no one is willing to get their invite and NOT use the product I just waited a week to get and still dont know what to do with, but I digress. (more…)
