It appears Apple has turned down the official Google Voice app for the app store as well as 3rd party apps for Google Voice. BOO! Google is speculating it is because the Carrier, who will remain unnamed so as to give them no advertising in this post, does not want the competition. While Google Voice may add some competition I also think it adds customers. When will we start to look at the world in a new way? I am disappointed in the iPhone makers lack of courage here and I hope that the re-consider the Google application. I am not going to run out and buy an Android phone but I guess it will come up in conversations more. Here are some links to articles: Article one or Article two. They both say pretty much the same thing. Enjoy or not as the case may be 😡

Oh yea and one last thing…..Google!

  1. I hear ya brutha. Apple is kinda stuck I guess with AT&T driving some of the hard decisions about the network, but I wish Apple would get a spine and just say no, and let it play out from there. Makes me want to jailbreak my phone even more now!

  2. One question on this move though: Are we sure this is solely an AT&T thing? The iPhone uses other carriers in other countries and they have excluded it from those markets as well, right? Also, why would iPod touch users not be allowed to use Google Voice? No duplication of services there. They allow Skype. While I’m sure Apple has been influenced by their carriers I don’t think AT&T is totally at fault here. Of course AT&T going to try to preserve their market. Like Jason said, it is up to Apple to get a spine and say no.
